Replacing External Boxes, Wires, and Bulk
On-Motor(TM) controllers can now be custom-designed by PennEngineering® Motion Technologies completely within PITTMAN® brushless DC motor frames to eliminate traditional and expensive external boxes, wires, and bulk and to enhance motor performance.
Key advantages resulting from On-Motor controllers include fewer components allowing for smaller, lighter packages; enhanced motor controllability; wide speed ranges; splash-proof electronics; elimination of complex motor-to-amplifier connections; lower cable cost; over-current control; sealed electronics; and higher motor efficiency.
On-Motor controllers enable multi-wire brushless DC motors to be converted into simple two-wire (single polarity) motors with open loop speed control in voltages from 12v. to 48v.; currents up to 8 amps, depending on windings used; and shaft speeds from 100 RPM up to 15,000 RPM, depending on load conditions. Dual-polarity and bi-directional motors also can be engineered.
On-Motor controllers basically govern shaft direction, speed, and braking, as well as providing feedback to maintain required velocity. More advanced controllers "packed" with an array of drive/control electronic components can offer additional functionality, including closed-loop motor speed control.
