Press Release Summary:
Packaged in compact 64-pin PQFP, model MC73110 consists of intelligent, single-axis controller designed to provide digital current loop, velocity loop, and commutation for motors. It operates in one of 3 modes: internal velocity profile mode, velocity mode with external command signal, and torque mode with external command signal. Unit provides 6-step and sinusoidal commutation, analog/digital command input, and 6-signal symmetric PWM waveform generation.

Advanced Motor Control IC Released
Lincoln, MA- Performance Motion Devices, Inc. (PMD) today announces the release of the MC73110 Motor Control IC for brushless DC motors. This intelligent single-axis controller is the first member of a new line of Motor Control ICs and is designed to provide ultra-high performance digital current loop, velocity loop, and commutation for brushless motors.
The MC73110 operates in one of three modes: internal velocity profile mode, velocity mode with an external command signal, and torque mode with an external command signal. It provides software-programmable velocity and current loops, six-step and sinusoidal commutation, analog or digital command input, profile generation and six-signal symmetric PWM (pulse width modulated) waveform generation. The MC73110 can be operated standalone using pre-programmed flash-stored parameters, or through a serial port interface using microprocessor-style commands. To create a complete motion controller, all that is required is to connect the MC73110 to three half-bridge switchers, typically MOSFET or IGBT-based.
The MC73110 is ideal for building high performance, low-cost brushless motor amplifiers. It can be used in applications such as motion control amplifiers, motor drives, medical automation, centrifuges, tape drives, machine tools, scientific instrumentation and semiconductor equipment.
Chuck Lewin, CEO and President of PMD comments; "Engineers are more and more interested in integrating the amplifier with the controller. This approach not only saves space and cost, but improves reliability as well because wiring is reduced and external components are eliminated."
The MC73110 is packaged in a compact 64-pin PQFP (plastic quad flat pack), and operates from 3.3 V.
Prices start at $18.00 in OEM quantities.
