MOSFET Driver ICs suit medical ultrasound applications.

Press Release Summary:

Integrated, 2-channel, 5-level driver IC, MD1711, generates 5-level waveform for CW, PW, and color Doppler images. It features ±2.0 A source and sink peak current, up to 20 MHz output frequency, and 2 separate gate drive voltages. Also available, MD1210 dual MOSFET driver IC drives N- and P-channel MOSFETs. It features symmetrical 6 ns rise and fall time with 1,000 pF load. Output can swing below ground, and low-jitter design generates good Doppler measurements.

Supertex Announces Two High Performance Ultrasound Drivers

New High-Speed Ultrasound Drivers Provide Superior, High Resolution Imaging

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 2 -- Supertex, Inc. (NASDAQ:SUPX) today introduced MD1711 and MD1210, the first in a family of high performance MOSFET driver integrated circuits (ICs) targeted for the medical ultrasound market.

MD1711 is an integrated two-channel, 5-level, high voltage and high-speed transmitter driver IC. It is designed for medical ultrasound imaging applications, but can also be used for non-destructive image evaluation applications such as metal flaw detection.

Also debuting is MD1210, a high-speed, dual MOSFET driver IC designed to drive high voltage N- and P-channel MOSFETs for medical ultrasound applications. It can also be used in applications requiring a high output current for a capacitive load.

"These two MOSFET driver ICs are the first of an extensive high-performance, high voltage IC family targeted specifically for medical ultrasound applications," said Ahmed Masood, Supertex Director of Marketing. "We will continue to develop driver solutions such as the MD1711 and MD1210 that enhance features and performance of new system designs."

MD1711 generates a 5-level waveform for CW, PW and color Doppler images. Other features include +/-2.0A source and sink peak current for clearer imaging, up to 20MHz output frequency for high resolution and two separate gate drive voltages to minimize power consumption.

MD1210 features: (a) a symmetrical 6ns rise and fall time with 1000pF load that provides superior imaging quality; (b) its output can swing below ground for flexible design; and (c) a low jitter design that generates good Doppler measurements. Other features include dual matched channels to ensure accurate beam focusing, 1.2V to 5V input CMOS compatibility to simplify design and a smart logic threshold that allows for single supply operation.

Samples & Availability

The MD1711 is available in a 48-lead LQFP (FG) package; MD1210 is available in a 12-lead 4x4x0.9 QFN (K6) package. They are offered in both standard and "Green" packages. Pricing for the MD1711FG is US$10.89 each in 1K quantities, MD1210K6 is priced at US$1.68 each in 1K quantities. All samples are available from stock. Lead-time for production quantities is 4 to 5 weeks ARO.

All packages of the above parts are "Green" or lead-free certified. They are available for sampling with a -G designation (i.e. MD1711FG-G). Contact your local Supertex sales office for pricing.

Demo boards MD1210DB1 and MD1711DB1 for the MOSFET drivers are available and can be requested through the Supertex website.
