Xiotech Introduces New Storage Monitor Application for its Magnitude 3D Systems to Simplify Data Management

Improved Automation Helps Midsized Organizations Monitor and Report on Data Faster and More Accurately, While Adding New Information Lifecycle Management Capabilities

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., April 3 / -- Xiotech® Corporation, a leading provider of data storage and data discovery solutions, today introduced the new Storage Monitor 4.0 release which provides improved automation, reporting and monitoring capabilities for its Magnitude 3D® storage systems. In addition, the new release helps midsized organizations manage multiple Magnitude 3D storage systems as well as their hardware and software environments from one data management application, providing them with easier and faster access to their stored information.

The Storage Monitor 4.0 release features new data classification capabilities and policy-driven automation technology for more sophisticated information lifecycle management (ILM). Data can be classified by parameters such as file type, access time and file owners. Data storage managers can then report, alert and take action on this data based on its classification. This capability assists in the determination of how data is treated -- for example, whether it is archived or destroyed -- based on pre-determined rules established by IT managers.

"The increasing value of ILM to enterprise data managers has become increasingly clear, and classifying data in order to assign it to the proper storage tier is the heart of ILM," said Mike Karp, data storage senior analyst, Enterprise Management Associates. "Managing the classification, migration and other data services in an automated manner as is done with the new release of Storage Monitor means that the processes that are fundamental to most aspects of ILM can be done in an efficient, error-free manner."

"As companies struggle to manage their growing data, this new classification function helps them establish policies and processes to best manage storage costs and treatment of their data," said Mike Stolz, vice president of marketing for Xiotech.

Storage Monitor Release 4.0 is available now, and a basic version comes bundled with every new Magnitude 3D system shipped by Xiotech.
