Monitoring Sensor with Ground Isolation and Current Output

In large engines, there are often distances of up to 30 meters between the location of the combustion pressure sensor and the evaluation electronics. If both the sensor and the evaluation electronics are connected to ground, high ground loop currents can flow between these two grounding points. As a result, the analog output signal of the sensor will be superimposed with strong interference signals.

To solve this problem, Kistler is now offering a ground-insulated monitoring sensor: the inner part of the sensor Type 6353A24 is electrically insulated from the sensor case. There is no electrical contact between the charge amplifier case and the engine either. This ground insulated construction prevents ground loops between the sensor and the electronic units connected to it.

An additional adaptation to the industrial environment is a current output allowing the cylinder pressure signal to be transmitted over large distances free of interference.
