MSC.Software Enhances CATIA Support With New Nonlinear Simulation Capabilities

New Nonlinear Capability Gives Engineers Expanded Deformable Bodies and Contact Functionality

SANTA ANA, Calif. - June 19, 2003 - MSC.Software Corp. (NYSE: MNS), the leading global provider of simulation software, services and systems, today announced the expansion of the MSC.visualNastran V5i family with many new functionalities including MSC.Generative Nonlinear. These products are based upon the Dassault Systemes V5 Component Application Architecture (CAA) and have been developed in close partnership with Dassault Systemes. They give CATIA V5 users integrated, scaleable access to the leading MSC.Software simulation tools and increase the opportunities to reduce design and testing costs throughout the product lifecycle.

With a new nonlinear contact capability, MSC.Generative Nonlinear provides an increased level of simulation at the CATIA V5 part and assembly level. This new nonlinear contact capability supports deformable-deformable and rigid-deformable contacts between parts, including self-contact. Users may control the interaction of parts and assemblies through the support of a contact table including glue, touch and inactive options.

Parts may easily be modeled using either lower or higher order shell or tetrahedral elements to model the wide variety of geometries provided by CATIA V5. Powerful adaptive load control procedures may be used to solve problems of large deformation, large strain analyses of metals, rubber materials or plastics. Elastic-plastic material models may be used as well as hyper-elastic material behavior including the popular generalized Mooney-Rivlin model. Combining these powerful capabilities allow the analysis and simulation of rubber components including seals, belts, tubes, isolation mounts and other devices. This release also includes the ability to model nonlinear springs.

Other new capabilities in this release include central management of all external V5i Analysis data files relevant to a CATAnalysis document, advanced XY plotting functionality, temperature dependent material property support for the MSC.Generative Thermal product, support of nonlinear material properties in the MSC.Gateway for ABAQUS product, and optionally, the ability to submit analysis jobs in batch mode anywhere on the network via an external 'enabler' product.

In addition, the availability of multiple and combined LoadSets within the MSC Generative product provides experts with extended MSC.Nastran capabilities.

The true physics and dynamic motion simulation inside MSC.Dynamic Designer for CATIA V5 now includes options for joint friction simulation and MSC.ADAMS Function Expressions.
