Aruba Networks Introduces Integrated Retail Mobility Solution

NEW YORK, Jan. 15 /- National Retail Federation Big Show - Aruba Networks, the Mobile Edge Company, today announced enhancements to its Mobile Edge Architecture designed to address the unique mobility and security requirements of the retail industry. With the new enhancements, Aruba will provide a cost-effective mobility system designed to meet the retail industry's stringent security requirements and to deliver investment protection by securely supporting both legacy and new mobile devices and applications.

Aruba's retail mobility solution helps merchants satisfy the recently introduced Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard 1.1, provides reliable and secure access for any standards-compliant 802.11 device, supports advanced mobile applications, and enables unified wireless device, network and application management. The retail mobility solution leverages the Aruba Mobile Edge Architecture to offer cost-effective implementations for both large-sized and small-sized retail store formats.

Comprising Aruba mobility controllers, Aruba access points (APs), and ArubaOS software, Aruba's retail mobility solution will deliver the following benefits and capabilities:

-- PCI v1.1 compliance: Significant new security features in ArubaOS,
including advanced rogue AP detection, classification and mitigation
for Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) and pre-802.11n access
points (APs), as well as NAT-capable APs, help retailers to cost-
effectively meet the requirements of the new PCI Data Security
Standard version1.1 that went into effect on January 1, 2007. The
Aruba Mobile Edge Architecture integrates Wireless Intrusion
Protection (WIP), a Policy Enforcement Firewall, and support for
WPA/WPA2 as a part of the same system that provides wireless access,
thus eliminating the need for separate security products. Aruba also
now links its vulnerability and threat reporting to the Wireless
Vulnerabilities and Exploits (WVE) database (www.wve.org), assisting
retail IT in quickly evaluating their system vulnerabilities and how
they can be fixed. These security enhancements can be utilized on all
existing Aruba hardware - mobility controllers and access points.
Aruba offers "right-sized" implementations for large and small retail
stores, including those requiring only a single AP.

-- Validated support for 802.11 wireless retail devices: The Aruba Mobile
Edge Architecture is device agnostic and does not require proprietary
client-side extensions to deliver reliable, secure mobility. To
validate its solution, Aruba has conducted extensive interoperability,
security and "mobility performance" (i.e., fast roaming, load-
balancing, battery life) testing with nearly forty legacy and
contemporary application-specific devices and Voice-over-WiFi (VoFi)
handsets commonly used in retail environments, providing retailers
with investment protection and the freedom to select the products they
choose.

-- Unified management of wireless network and devices: To address the
challenges of managing the diverse retail environment of mobile
devices, mobile applications, and mobility infrastructure, Aruba has
partnered with Wavelink Corporation, a leading developer of multi-
vendor mobile application and infrastructure management software for
the enterprise. Wavelink and Aruba will provide integrated
functionality between Aruba's wireless and mobility solutions and
Wavelink's Avalanche(TM) Mobility Center (Avalanche MC) product line.
This integration will reduce management costs and complexity, protect
existing investments in legacy devices, and provide an easy migration
path to newer mobility network solutions and devices.

-- Support for emerging in-store mobility applications: Moving beyond
traditional retail applications such as inventory management and
point-of-sale, Aruba's Mobile Edge Architecture is designed to support
advanced mobility applications such as RFID (Radio Frequency
Identification) location-based services and latency-sensitive
multimedia applications such as Vo-Fi. For location applications,
Aruba's solution eliminates the need for a separate RFID network by
providing leading RFID vendors' systems with a broad range of location
and RF information. The Aruba Mobile Edge Architecture also delivers
strong Voice over Wi-Fi (Vo-Fi) performance, scalability and
manageability using standards-compliant implementations for Quality of
Service, high call capacity, fast handover, and extended battery life.

"Retailers have distinct needs when it comes to their mobility and wireless network solutions. Clearly, there must be a huge emphasis on security. But the multiplier effect of hundreds or thousands of retail outlets makes cost-effectiveness, investment protection, broad device and application support, and ease of management critical success factors," said Keerti Melkote, Aruba's founder. "The Aruba Mobile Edge Architecture is designed to give retailers the means to satisfy all of these requirements with a single, integrated solution."

All of these features will be on display at Aruba's booth #2165 at the National Retail Federation's "Big Show," taking place in New York City at the Jacob Javits Center from January 15 to January 16. In addition, Aruba experts will be on hand providing PCI security consultation for retailers at the show.
