Aven's iLoupe XL2 Mobile Microscope has Measurement Program, Camera

ANN ARBOR, MI - A powerful palm-size microscope with color display screen is being introduced at a national technology event by Aven, Inc. The innovative iLoupe XL2, which includes measurement software, delivers mobility and versatility for industrial, medical, research and academic users.

The new instrument will be demonstrated Sept. 20-22 at the Quality Expo in Chicago for manufacturing professionals.

Capabilities of the iLoupe XL2 include 200x digital magnification, still imaging, video recording, PC output and live webcam use.

"This compact mobile microscope serves multiple roles," says Mike Shahpurwala, president of Aven, a global precision tool and optical supplier based in Michigan. "Engineers can do quality control spot checks in various production areas without a laptop, for example. It's also practical for scientific or educational field studies to record size, color and magnified images of living or inanimate samples."
Zoom and brightness controls

In its main role as a microscope, the iLoupe displays enlarged views on a 2.8-inch LCD color screen. Magnification range is 15x to 200x and optical zoom capability is 10x or 40x.

The measurement program lets users record length, perimeter, angle and surface area of examined objects.

Illumination comes from four white LEDs, which can be dimmed. Screen displays can be presented in three alternate formats (gray, inverse and embossed) for enhanced detail.

Still or video images are captured by a 2-megapixel CMOS sensor and stored in a flash memory drive with 2-gigabyte capacity. The scope's 3.7-volt rechargeable lithium battery offers five hours of use time or up to seven hours in standby mode.

Webcam capability
The multi-function, durable instrument -- weighing just four ounces -- can take standard photos, videos and be used for webcam conferences by linking to a computer through a USB cable that's provided. The USB port also connects the device to a charging adapter.

Other accessories furnished are an adjustable stand with object holder, carrying case, cleaning cloth and wrist strap.

Applications include industrial and electronic QC inspections, parts defect documentation, laboratory studies, dermatology and other health care, forensics, printing and textile alignment checks, field work in biology, archeology, forestry, botany, geology and other sciences.
