BT and NetDespatch Deliver Cost-Effective Mobile Computing for Distribution Companies

LONDON, July 4

Providing Wireless Access to Vital Information for 'On-The-Road'
Employees

BT and NetDespatch, today announce the launch of a new mobile application which will help distribution and logistics companies to operate more efficiently. BT-NetDespatch Mobility is a comprehensive, cost-effective managed solution that enables companies and remote workers to benefit from real-time mobile computing.

This new product is the first result of a collaboration between BT, one of the world's leading providers of communications solutions and services and leading on-demand web-based software company NetDespatch.

BT-NetDespatch Mobility has been designed for use by delivery drivers, couriers and other mobile workers. It provides a robust wireless data communication link between remote workers and those in the office, offering live access to the full range of NetDespatch hosted applications. For example, users will be able to capture signatures and provide real-time Proof of Delivery (POD), utilising browser-equipped GPRS handheld computers.

"Mobile computing has long been seen as the answer to cutting costs, boosting productivity and improving customer service levels, but there have been significant issues which delay implementation. These include investment and running costs and robust data communications. With the launch of BT-NetDespatch Mobility these hurdles are overcome by providing immediate benefits via a fully-managed solution," said Becky Clark, Chief Executive Officer, NetDespatch.

Paul Cleaver, general manager field force automation, BT Global Services,
said: "Improving the quality and timeliness of information for mobile workers is a priority for all businesses, but particularly in the distribution and logistics sector. Poor communication between employees on the road and those in the office is a huge barrier to operating effectively and with today's wireless technology this simply shouldn't be happening. By combining BT's expertise in managing and implementing enterprise mobility solutions and NetDespatch's experience in the distribution sector, we can now offer a simple solution for businesses to address this issue."

BT-NetDespatch Mobility has been designed from the ground up to integrate with customers' legacy systems and takes into account different ways of exchanging data. The new solution is part of an integrated suite of web-based software developed to drive distribution business efficiency and profitability. It is a fully functional managed solution comprising system design, development, hosting, management, web-based administration, support, airtime and handheld devices.
