New Miniature Encoder with Integrated LED for Simple, Easy Set-up

Numerik Jena LIK21 Specially Designed for Motion Control, Semiconductor, and Fiber Optic Industries

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA - (May 2003) - Numerik Jena, formerly of the Carl Zeiss Corporation, is introducing its newest miniaturized encoder. Born in the optics valley of Germany, Numerik Jena has been manufacturing miniaturized linear and rotary encoders for silicon wafer production machines, linear motors, co-ordinate measuring machines, etc. since 1970. Using patented, chip-on-glass technology, Numerik Jena now introduces the LIK21, a high-performance sensor that's only 6mm in height and weighs only 3.2 grams.

Broad alignment tolerances with a set-up LED provide for quick, simple installation. And, sensor signals are automatically optimized for highest accuracy. The small Z height makes it easy to fit into restricted space requirements, and with a maximum sensor speed of 10m/sec, its low mass allows faster stage acceleration.

Digital, 1Vpp analog and vacuum-compatible models are available. Digital units provide A-quad-B output with resolutions from 5µm to 0.05µm. Resolutions of 0.025µm and 0.0125µm are available using the analog model with optional external interpolation electronics.

All Numerik Jena linear encoders are manufactured from stainless steel. The graduation is etched into the highly polished steel surface, making it extremely robust. Linear encoder grating periods are 20µm and are available with accuracies from ± 1µm and measuring lengths up to 30 meters.

RSF Electronics' parent company, RSF Electronik Ges.m.b.H., located near Salzburg, Austria is a leading international manufacturer of precision measurement equipment. The product line includes open and enclosed linear encoders, modular ring and standard rotary angular encoders, digital readouts, and precision measuring probes. Supporting electronics such as real time interpolation modules (up to x400) for 1Vpp or 11µA encoders and PC encoder boards with PCI interface are also provided. Numerik Jena linear and rotary encoders are distributed through RSF Electronik's worldwide subsidiary/distributor network.
