Original Press Release:

SKF® Miniature Ball Screws for Lab Instruments Promote Quiet And Smooth-Running Operation

New SKF® miniature ball screws (SD Series) uniquely feature an internal recirculation design that promotes quiet and smooth-running operation, excellent repeatability, and precise positioning. They can serve ideally in a wide range of laboratory instrument applications, including syringe pumps and automated pipettes, among countless others.

Their design incorporates a cylindrical nut with internal recirculation and a threaded end for easy mounting. The optimized nut geometry greatly reduces noise during operation and is less sensitive to misalignment.

SD Series ball screws can accommodate higher dynamic loads, which can facilitate a more compact instrument design by allowing even smaller ball screws to be specified in some applications. Their standard diameters range from 8mm to 16mm and leads range from 2mm to 5mm.

Options include safety devices, wipers, and the SDS series in stainless steel for corrosion- resistance. Special configurations with nuts having from 2 to 6 circuits can be ordered. All SKF ball screw assemblies can be equipped with accessories for screw shafts and nuts and can be supplied with necessary support bearing packages pre-assembled and ready to go.

The SD Series can further be customized to provide application solutions with cut-to-length screws shafts, machined ends, cylindrical or flanged nuts with preload or axial play.
