Emerson Network Power Launches the Liebert NX, a New Mid-Sized UPS Platform

New UPS design reduces energy and installation costs without compromising protection

COLUMBUS, Ohio, February 3, 2004 - Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR) and the world leader in high availability power protection through its Liebert brand, today introduced the Liebert NX, a mid-sized UPS platform that sets new standards for efficiency, reliability and design. The Liebert NX is a global UPS platform that delivers complete, centralized power protection for mission critical systems in server rooms, mid-sized data centers and industrial plants. The 120/208 Volt, three-phase, version of the platform is initially available in 10-30 kVA sizes in four modules.

"This new platform is the result of the largest research and development effort in the history of our organization," said Bob Bauer, president of Liebert Corporation. "Our development team brought a critical eye to every major UPS component, looking for ways to enhance reliability and efficiency without adding costs. The result is a new global UPS platform that brings true high-availability power protection within the reach of mid-sized data centers and networks."

The Liebert NX features an online, IGBT-based, double conversion topology to protect critical equipment from the full range of power disturbances, including noise, spikes, waveform distortions, surges, sags and frequency variations. Exceptional overload protection allows the system to handle 125 percent of rated load for ten minutes, 150 percent for one minute and 1000 percent for 10 milliseconds.

Outage protection is provided by a flexible and intelligent battery system that includes a battery management algorithm to help ensure batteries are available when needed. The wide input-voltage window and frequency tolerance enable the system to deliver clean, consistent power during sag or brownout conditions without discharging the battery. This helps preserve battery capacity for outages. Temperature-compensated battery charging also helps ensure that battery capacity and life are optimized.

The system features an exceptional input power factor specification of at least 0.99, enabling a Liebert NX system to protect more equipment using the same amount of electricity than a similarly sized UPS with a lower power factor. The power factor specification, combined with the system's ability to adjust power walk-in up to 30 seconds and outstanding input current distortion specification, may allow a smaller size backup generator to be used with the Liebert NX, compared to other UPS systems its size.

The Liebert NX is also the most compact UPS in its size range. It features a 24-inch by 32.5-inch footprint including the back-up battery, with full front access for easy service. Its sleek cabinet, with large LCD display, is at home in the data center or in an auxiliary room. Reliability is assured through the system's high overload protection, internal redundancy, digital controls and a unique rectifier design.

Two Liebert NX modules can be paralleled in a redundant configuration for added reliability and serviceability. Each Liebert NX includes three Intellislot(TM) ports for monitoring and communications. The system can be monitored by Liebert's MultiLink automated system shutdown software; OpenComms Nform, OpenComms Web or SiteScan monitoring systems; the Liebert Universal Monitor or Liebert Remote Monitor; or by third-party monitoring systems.

Configuration and installation support is delivered by Liebert's network of local representatives, with service available through Liebert Global Services, the industry's largest service organization.

"Even mid-sized data centers are being challenged to deliver near continuous availability," said Kevin Stoll, vice president of marketing for Liebert Corporation. "The Liebert NX is a response to that challenge. It gives data center and network managers a new flexible solution to achieving the high availability their businesses require in today's digital economy."
