Geodetic Systems, Inc. Rolls Out New Photogrammetry Software V-STARS 4.4 SR2 Software for Portable CMM Applications
Melbourne, FL -- November 15, 2005 -- Geodetic Systems, Inc. This updated release stacks up the enhancements in the industry-leading photogrammetry product line for high precision data acquisition. V-STARS captures measurements in formidable places where other PCMM products designate "off-limits". V-STARS 4.4 SR2 introduces new functionality, expanded usability features, data management tools, and more. In a typical photogrammetry session, the INCA3 digital camera is used to capture photographs of large objects for in-place inspection. Users can examine the photographs visually via thumbnails and full images. The new version of V-STARS introduces a new display enhancements that match the picture thumbnails, their outline colors, and text color to the icons on the project tree. The operator can quickly review color-coded outlines to see the project status of each photograph.
Another important addition to V-STARS is the Create Detail Codes option in the multi-camera mode setup.When this option is checked, any triangulated coded targets (that are not in the driver file) are added to the detail file. This information is very useful for users to see how far a code has moved from its starting or baseline condition. For backward compatibility, the option can be deselected.
V-STARS 4.4 SR2 software will now automatically determine which INCA3 camera needs to be the master when using wireless sync devices in the multi-camera mode. Newly added TCP/IP commands return the status of camera connection. The software also contains a quick touch feature enabling users to press Shift-T on the keyboard to instantly display the differences between the measured and design point values.
Other V-STARS enhancements include options for showing deviation codes and using coded targets for picture orientation. In the past, the unstable camera orientation would sometimes be too strict in rejecting points. The unstable camera functionality has been significantly improved, and camera orientation results are now logged in the project directory. V-STARS 4.4 SR2 also includes helpful time-date stamps, including date/time of the last probe calibration and project create date information available in the Properties listing.
Primary Use of Photogrammetry
V-STARS photogrammetry systems are primarily used for in-place measurement and inspection of large objects in unstable industrial environments, where conditions like vibration, movement, and extreme temperatures exist and pose problems for other types of metrology instruments. Users can shoot field measurements with minimal downtime to others working concurrently on an assembly such as a large aircraft. A V-STARS system consists of one or more INCA3 cameras, a notebook computer with powerful, proprietary V-STARS software, and various accessories. The entire solution can be carried onboard an airplane, or checked as standard baggage... to go from factory floor to offsite plants, or anywhere in the world.
