Innovation Rolls Out New PharmASSIST Dispenser Model 4 with Medication Self Calibration Capability

Becomes First Dispensing Technology in the Industry to Achieve Self Calibration

JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. — Innovation, makers of PharmASSIST® pharmacy automation solutions, today announced they have begun rolling out the new PharmASSIST Dispenser Model 4 to their current customer base and to the industry at large. The Model 4 is the first medication dispensing technology in the industry that has the capability to self calibrate the counting of new medications at a pharmacy.

"As we established Model 4 development goals, we knew how important the concept of self calibration of medications was to our customers and the industry," said Mary Reno, CEO, Innovation. "Self calibration is a huge time saver for pharmacies, enabling their staffs to start counting new medications immediately instead of having to make mechanical adjustments or wait for a new cell to arrive. This is particularly relevant when a branded drug goes generic."

The Model 4's newly patented Falcon Detection(TM) technology is the thrust behind self calibration, and enables the dispenser to count all types of tablet/capsule medications with the highest possible counting accuracy. The Model 4 is also made with electrostatically charged plastic, which repeals the naturally occurring dust when handling pills. "The Model 4 will take pharmacies to an entirely new level of efficiency, accuracy, patient safety, and prescription throughput," said Reno.

Originally introduced in 1997, the PharmASSIST Dispenser is the cornerstone of all Innovation's dispensing technologies and a key component of their Pharmacy Intelligence(TM) initiatives. The wholly independent smart device stores, counts, and dispenses tablet/capsule medications - all simultaneously - within their cabinet-based, robotic, and high volume solutions for all types of pharmacies. The dispenser continuously collects all dispenser activity in conjunction with the PharmASSIST Symphony® database, and provides actionable data to their Pharmacy Intelligence analytical tools. To help pharmacies achieve superior patient safety, the dispenser employs bar code scanning and strictly enforced software protocols for all dispensing, replenishment, lot code/drug expiry tracking, and drug assignment tasks.
