MedAptus' Electronic Charge Capture Successfully Integrated with Epic Systems' EMR Offering

User Benefits Include Sustained Financial Benefit, Enhanced Clinical Workflow

BOSTON, May 1 --Today it was announced that MedAptus® , provider of point-of-care technologies to leading healthcare organizations, has completed the integration of its practice-proven Electronic Charge Capture with the EpicCare® EMR system, from Epic Systems Corporation. The first customer site to install and utilize the new interface linking the two systems is Dedham Medical Associates, a long-time MedAptus customer.

Dedham Medical Associates, recognized as one of the premier multi- specialty physician practices in the Greater Boston area, has been providing patient care for more than 65 years. The practice is additionally an affiliate and founding member of Atrius Health. Physicians at Dedham Medical have been using MedAptus for professional charge documentation and submission for nearly five years - as a result of improved capture of gross charges, a per-physician financial benefit of more than $20,000 has been consistently achieved.

"The combination of Epic's EMR with MedAptus' revenue enhancing technology makes for a powerful solution. While our physicians benefit from access to computerized patient records, which is tremendously helpful from a quality of care point of view, we also remain confident that we are operating with an optimized revenue cycle," said John Parker, CEO of Dedham Medical Associates.

Many healthcare organizations have come to realize that the implementation of an EMR system does not preclude usage of MedAptus' Electronic Charge Capture given the solution's ability to drive coding accuracy and ultimately, increased reimbursement.

At Dedham Medical, the MedAptus-Epic integration allows physicians to document the patient encounter, including procedure and diagnosis codes, once. A real-time interface then transmits charge data from Epic to the MedAptus Workflow Manager engine, where over one million coding and compliance rules are applied, assessing the charge for appropriateness. Any charges with coding violations are flagged and held for review, reducing potential denials and loss of revenue.

"In addition to Epic, MedAptus is interoperable with an additional 35 clinical, administrative and financial systems. Similar to what is currently underway at Dedham Medical, we fully expect to see our solution become an integral part of the electronic records strategies of leading-edge groups," stated Dennis Mitchell, president and CEO of MedAptus. "Customer feedback maintains that MedAptus is simply unparalleled when it comes to ease of integration, robust coding compliance and demonstrable revenue increases."
