Instron® Introduces Its Family of Portable Mechanical Testers

Instron®, a leading provider of testing equipment designed to evaluate mechanical properties of materials and components, introduces its new family of portable mechanical testers: the In-Spec 2200 Hand-Held and the In-Spec 2200 Bench-Top. These instruments are ideally suited for on-site quality control checks, tension/compression/peel testing in the field - away from AC power, as well as for any application where it is more efficient to bring the tester to the specimen than to bring the item to the lab.

Instron's new portable testers easily convert between two test modes: "push-pull" and "tension-compression." In the push-pull mode, the force is reacted against the object itself, like pulling a connector off of a PC board. In the tension-compression mode, the force is reacted against a built-in crosshead. Unlike traditional force gauges, the tester applies load or displacement at known, repeatable speeds to ensure consistent testing and results.

The hand-held model is equipped with a color, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) that monitors tests, displays results and easily connects to networks. With the PDA, data can be downloaded to a PC or network, for subsequent analysis or archiving. The bench-top model is designed to interface with either a laptop or a PDA for data capture and analysis.
