Measuring Sensor has electro-optical shutter.

Press Release Summary:

ConoProbe non-contact, single-point measuring sensor, based on conoscopic holography, transforms reflected laser beam into distance measurement, producing 2D profiles or 3D surfaces. Integrated electro-optical shutter allows measurements during in-process laser drilling, cutting, and welding through same focusing lens as laser. Laser is typically pulsed Nd:YAG or CO2 type, and shutter allows for measuring distance and shapes in-between laser pulses.

Electro-Optical Shutter Allows Measurements While Industrial Laser is in Operation

Wilmington, MA March 2004....Optimet, Inc. introduces a new electro-optical shutter for their ConoProbe. The ConoProbe is a non-contact, single-point measuring sensor based on conoscopic holography. The heart of all Optimet products, the ConoProbe, when integrated into industrial systems, uses mathematical processing to transform the reflected laser beam into a distance measurement producing 2D profiles or 3D surfaces.

The new integrated electro-optical shutter inside the ConoProbe sensor, will allow measurements during in-process laser drilling, cutting and welding. This can all be done through the same focusing lens as the laser. The laser is usually a pulsed Nd:YAG or CO2 type and the electro-optical shutter allows for measuring distance and shapes in between the laser pulses. The shutter is opened and closed according to the arrival of a laser pulse and delays can be set by the user to accommodate plasma flash times. The Laser Synchronization Unit (LSU) controls synchronization to the laser pulse, ConoProbe Measurement Frequency, Optical shutter open time and Plasma Delay time.

The electro-optical shutter is designed to block high intensity light from other applications that are in use. Applications for the electro-optical shutter include high power laser cutting, drilling or welding applications.
