MCUs have 2-partition, single flash block architecture.

Press Release Summary:

Leveraging SuperFlash technology, SST89E52RC and SST89E54RC microcontrollers (MCUs) feature 8 or 16 KB primary and 1 KB secondary independent program memory partitions. In-system programming and in-application programming function allows for in-field re-programming of flash memory code. In addition to entire block programming time of less than 2.2 sec and page-level security locks, 8-bit 8051-compatible MCUs feature 512 Bytes of RAM and operate at 33 MHz clock speed.

SST Introduces Two-Partition, Single Flash Block Devices to Its FlashFlex51 Microcontroller Family

SuperFlash-Based Microcontrollers Are Ideal Solutions for High-Volume Consumer Applications Market

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 14 -- SST (Silicon Storage Technology, Inc.), (NASDAQ:SSTI), a leader in flash memory technology, today announced the availability of its next-generation FlashFlex51 family of 8-bit, 8051-compatible microcontrollers. Leveraging the company's proprietary SuperFlash technology, the new SST89E52RC and SST89E54RC microcontrollers feature a single flash block architecture with two independent program memory partitions. The devices also feature an in-system programming (ISP) and in-application programming (IAP) function that enables users to re-program the flash memory code in the field. The SST89E52/54RC microcontroller products are used in a wide range of high-volume applications including audio amplifiers and other digital consumer devices. SST's two-partition, single-block SuperFlash MCUs with fast entire block programming time (<2.2s), in-field re-programmability and unique page security offer high reliability, lower system costs and expedite system development cycles.

"With the addition of these two products to our successful RC series of microcontrollers, we continue to leverage our SuperFlash technology, enriching our flash-based FlashFlex51 microcontrollers," said Paul Lui, senior vice president, Standard and Special Product Group at SST. "SST's microcontroller family offers a high-performance solution with a flexible feature set, enabling users to design, manufacture and deliver high-quality end products. The SST89E52/54RC microcontroller features will allow customers to utilize our solutions in a variety of high-volume applications."

The single flash block architecture of the SST89E5xRC series of FlashFlex51 microcontrollers is partitioned into an 8 KByte or 16 KByte primary partition plus a 1 KByte secondary partition. In addition, the devices feature 512 Bytes of RAM and operate at a 33MHz clock speed.

In-Field Re-Programmability Through IAP and ISP

Like all of SST's FlashFlex51 microcontrollers, the RC series supports both IAP and ISP, enabling the user to update the flash device in the field or in an application. Both IAP and ISP lower cost and improve time-to-market for manufacturers, while bringing enhanced user experiences and convenience to consumers. These re-programming features also have a significant role in enabling increased functionality, such as remote diagnostics and product monitoring, in network- or Internet-enabled devices.

The SST89E52/54RC microcontrollers feature page-level security locks for added protection. The page-level security locks improve the overall security level of the application and improve the flexibility of data storage. Additional features within the devices include a programmable Watchdog Timer (WDT), one enhanced UART, a double clock mode option and a selectable operation clock.

Pricing and Availability

The SST89E54RC and SST89E52RC microcontrollers are available now. Pricing for the SST89E54RC is $1.10 and pricing for the SST89E52RC is $0.90, each in 10K unit quantities. For additional information, visit SST's Web site at www.sst.com/ .
