FKI Logistex Expands Library Product Line

New features add convenience for patrons and ease work tasks for staff

(Frederick, MD: June 23, 2005) FKI Logistex® (www.fkilogistex.com), a global leader in integrated material handling solutions, announces that it is expanding its library product line to offer new features and benefits for the library market.

Among the upgrades is a new version of the FKI Logistex Library Mate(TM) automated patron self-service return unit. Named the Library Mate 24/7(TM), the weather-resistant unit operates outdoors around the clock, making returns more convenient for library patrons and staff.

The FKI Logistex Library Mate and Library Mate 24/7 can function as induction points in systems that use automated sortation. The units support returns processing using RFID, bar codes or hybrid RFID-bar code systems, and have a capacity of 660 items per hour.

A second new product addition to the FKI Logistex library product line is the Ergo Tote(TM) battery-operated tote-lifting device. The rechargeable Ergo Tote offers an ergonomic design developed to reduce the strain of tote movement in library circulation workrooms, particularly in the transfer of interlibrary materials.

Also new for FKI Logistex library customers is the addition of the FKI Logistex MiniSorter(TM) to the company's library automated sortation lineup, which also features the Compact Sorter(TM) cross-belt sorter. The MiniSorter, a completely modular linear-belt sortation system scalable for application in libraries of all sizes, becomes the newest member of the FKI Logistex complete line of sortation solutions, which includes industry-leading tilt-tray, double-tray, cross-belt, and linear-belt configurations.

In its conveyor lineup, FKI Logistex has added the industry-leading and patented 24-volt belted Accuzone® to its library offerings. The Accuzone is an energy-saving all-electric conveyor system that eliminates the need for compressed air common to other powered conveyor systems.

Automating library functions with sortation and conveying equipment and devices like the FKI Logistex Library Mate and Ergo Tote frees library staff members to work on other service-oriented tasks. Additional FKI Logistex systems buffer and automate functions such as patron reserve holdings and interlibrary lendings, improving staff workflow and efficiency in those tasks.

"FKI Logistex leads the library market in developing automated material handling technologies that can dramatically improve operations for library managers and staff," says John Kelly, president, FKI Logistex Airport, Post and Parcel North America. "Innovations like the Library Mate, the Ergo Tote, and the MiniSorter illustrate how FKI Logistex is responding to the material handling automation needs of our customers in the library market."
