Enhancements to IntelliCENTER 2.0 Software Allow Users to More Quickly and Easily Add or Change Motor Control Center (MCC) Components

New software features provide greater ease of use and expanded HMI compatibility

MILWAUKEE, Feb. 13, 2006 - Users of the Allen-Bradley IntelliCENTER motor control center (MCC) can now more quickly and easily add components and make other hardware configuration changes, thanks to new features available in IntelliCENTER 2.0 software from Rockwell Automation. The new drag-and-drop function used to add or remove devices saves time and simplifies hardware changes on an existing MCC.

"Ease of use, simple setup and fast, plug-and-play installation are at the heart of what users have come to expect from the IntelliCENTER MCC," said Kevin Retlich, product manager, Rockwell Automation. "These benefits are evident in this new software that enables users to update quickly and easily to reflect hardware changes. It reduces engineering time and provides greater configuration flexibility."

IntelliCENTER 2.0 features new ActiveX controls that allow the software to be readily accessed by a variety of HMI software packages, including Rockwell Software RSView32 and RSView SE, as well as Web browsers. Preconfigured screens (available as ActiveX objects in other HMI programs) reduce HMI programming time and show real-time data, trending, component history, wiring diagrams, user manuals and spare parts, all at the click of a button.

"The ability to view operating and diagnostic data in varying HMI programs gives users greater application versatility and expanded flexibility to install the IntelliCENTER software wherever it's needed - in a control room, at an engineer's desk or on a laptop," said Retlich.

Individual MCC units displaying data for motor controllers, drives and motor protectors, allow users to view critical status information. Operating parameters can be easily customized within the HMI. The new software lets users name device components and locations in a way that best meets the requirements of their specific industry or application environment.

Upon installation, IntelliCENTER 2.0 automatically loads and registers the electronic data sheet (EDS) files (which contain all the parameters for every device in the MCC), saving users valuable time from having to download these files from other sources. The software also includes all electrical and mechanical drawings and user manuals, making the MCC much easier to service.

To supplement existing IntelliCENTER hardware, new hardware additions in IntelliCENTER 2.0 include the Allen-Bradley Bulletin 1606 power supply and Allen Bradley E1 Plus electronic overload relay. The Bulletin 1606 features a compact footprint that dramatically reduces cabinet space requirements for reduced cost and increased application flexibility. The E1 Plus provides users with all the benefits of an electronic overload relay, including DeviceNet communications, at a much lower-cost entry point.

The new IntelliCENTER 2.0 software is currently available.
