Transition Networks Unveils New Line of MILAN by Transition Manageable Switches

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., May 2 / / -- The conversion technology and switching expert, Transition Networks Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Communications Systems Inc., today announced the introduction of a new remotely managed MILAN by Transition switch with nine 10/100/1000 copper and two Gigabit SFP fiber interfaces. The new switch offers a cost efficient, low-port switching solution for indoor and outdoor applications where temperature resistance and minimal size are a must. The switch also provides SNMP V1/2/3 management for secure configuration and monitoring of the entire segment connectivity. In addition, two SFP Gigabit uplink ports can now connect multiple switches over fiber optic links and offer a redundant super ring capability.

The MILAN by Transition switch series delivers superior management features that include port based, dynamic and static VLANs, 802.1Q VLAN tagging, GVRP with MVR, IGMP, port mirroring, port security and super ring. Security includes static addressing, filtering and blocking of packets to identified MAC addresses. Four priority queues per port insure minimum delay for voice over IP or multimedia network data. Console port provides local management while Telnet SNMP and Web-based management are provided via any network device.

"Today, IP-based technologies are starting to dominate outdoor applications that have historically been reserved for serial connectivity. Gigabit switches gradually leave traditional LANs and become a backbone for infrastructure connectivity and management," said Bill Schultz, vice president of marketing at Transition Networks. "The MILAN by Transition switches help companied achieve greater network connectivity."

The managed switch is remotely upgradeable via TFTP or console firmware upgrade. Established configuration can be saved and also applied to other switches. The switch supports IEEE802.3ad with LACP function. Rapid Spanning Tree featured on the switch allows for participation in redundant segments while super ring makes it ideal for resilient ring applications.
