Baumer Redundant Magnetic Encoders Enhance Safety of Automated Equipment

Compact, Robust Encoders Reduce Processing for the Controller, Minimize Cabling and Decrease Costs

Southington, Conn. - Baumer has introduced a new line of MAGRES Redundant Encoders that provide highly reliable speed, rotation and position monitoring for applications where the malfunction of automated equipment might result in personal injury or property damage.

MAGRES Redundant Encoders provide two fully-magnetic positioning systems in one compact 58 mm x 2-inch housing. An integrated electronic monitoring system compares the values reported by the individual encoders and provides an error warning with any detectable malfunction. This redundant encoder design reduces the amount of processing work required of the controller, minimizes necessary cabling, and decreases system costs and complication.

MAGRES Redundant Encoders are designed with no moving parts, no light source and no glass or breakable components, making them highly robust and resistant to shock and vibration. Two models are available: The standard MAGRES Redundant Encoder with integrated CANopen fieldbus interface and 12-bit singleturn or 18-bit multiturn resolution, and the cable-pull MAGRES Redundant Encoder with integrated 5-meter cable.

Baumer MAGRES Redundant Encoders are designed for use with theatrical stage systems, heavy-duty vehicles, cranes, transport systems, hoists, rolling gates, automated guided vehicles, handling robots, automotive systems, packaging machines, lacquering plants and other safety-critical applications. SIL 3 and PLe certification for these encoders is pending.
