New B-Axis Rotary Table Software Feature from Cincinnati Machine Enhances Quality and Productivity of Multi-Tasking and VTL Processes



Innovative, patent-pending "Balance Sensor" technology also improves machine reliability and maintainability

Hebron, Kentucky, January 3, 2006 - Engineers at Cincinnati Machine have developed an innovative software feature for detecting imbalance conditions in rotary B-axis tables used on the company's multi-tasking machining centers. The unique, patent-pending "Balance Sensor" feature senses rotary table, fixture and part imbalance using direct feedback from the machine's controller.

Integrated within the Siemens SINUMERIK® 840D control offered on Cincinnati's
broad range of multi-tasking MC's, the new Balance Sensor feature monitors Z-axis following error to rapidly and accurately sense table imbalance. The software numerically tracks low frequency, 5 hertz or below, irregularities.

If the Balance Sensor feature determines that an unbalance condition exists, calculations are made by a Balance Assist program which generates a graphical display to identify the location of the imbalance and how much compensating weight is needed to correct the problem. This same technology will be applicable to Giddings and Lewis VTL systems in the future.

The ability to effectively monitor and correct table imbalances is essential for maximizing machine tool efficiency, according to Richard Curless, Vice President, Engineering and Development for Cincinnati Machine. "With the new Balance Sensor software, manufacturers can now efficiently achieve effective rotary table balance producing higher quality parts without excessive amounts of process labor control," Curless said.

Additionally, the Balance Sensor technology reduces machine downtime and unnecessary maintenance costs by being integrated with the FREEDOM E-log system.
