Rugged Versatile High Speed Machining Center Allows Big Gains in Precision, Productivity

LINCOLNSHIRE, IL (May 5, 2004) -Mikron Corporation, a leading manufacturer of the widest range of high speed machining (HSM) centers, has introduced a new addition to their HSM product family, the VCP 1000 Duro - a vertical 3 or 4-axis machining center. The VCP 1000 Duro is designed for reliable high-performance machining in die/mold manufacturing and job shops. Its stable construction allows it to also be used for a wide range of tasks from roughing down to fine finishing work.

At the core of the VCP 1000 Duro is a large and sturdy polymer concrete machine base that provides excellent rigidity, thermal stability and vibration dampening qualities. Its sturdy design results in better cutting performance, increased accuracy, higher quality surface finishes, and longer tool life.

Based on the sliding column principle, the unit features massive pre-stressed re-circulating ball screws that transmit the drive forces to the axes. High-precision, widely spaced linear guides in all axes and six roller-bearing blocks, each in X and Y-axes, ensure precise machining. The VCP1000 features a shop-friendly, state-of-the-art digital Heidenhain iTNC 530 Control System. Easy to use and program, the control's powerful processor capabilities allow impressive contouring and many other functions.

State-of-the-art motor spindle technology provides vector regulation, a highly stable spindle bearing and spindle case cooling for constant temperatures during operation. Spindles for the VCP 1000 Duro are vector controlled with hybrid ceramic bearings, in speed ranges from 12,000 to 42,000 rpm. The spindles are well suited for cutting hardened steel, graphite, and other materials.

The new machining center's 52" x 24" (1300 x 600 mm) extra long work table can handle workpiece weights of up to 3,500 lbs (1600 kg) and also allows many alternative set-ups, such as double or multiple-piece clamping, use of dividing heads when working with long components and more. Its sturdy base and massive mounting surfaces make it possible for the unit to adapt to a wide variety of production jobs.

"The VCP 1000 Duro is a rugged and versatile high-speed machining center," states Mr. Mal Sudhakar, VP Sales & Marketing of Mikron. "The construction is generously designed to ensure the best stability and precision over the entire life of the machine."

The VCP 1000 comes equipped with chip conveyers designed to transport large chip volumes and a coolant pump that is integrated into the coolant tank. For more complex requirements, internal through-the-spindle coolant or minimum quantity air mist lubrication options are also available. Other optional features include: an 18 bar coolant system, rotoclear, oil mist extraction system, oil mist coolant spray unit, tool measuring by laser, graphite dust removal unit, remote jog handle and more.
