Bridgeport Introduces the NEW HSC500 High-Speed Machining Center

(Shelton, CT - March 2004) Bridgeport Machines, Ltd. introduces the "HSC 500" machining center, which has been designed from the ground up to machine electrodes in both graphite and copper, as well as pre-hardened materials - all to the most exacting tolerances. This new machine features high-speed spindles, quick accelerations, the latest generation of controls and a responsive servo system. The HSC500 meets and exceeds the demanding requirements of the die mold industry. It combines high-performance and high productivity at a competitive price.

This bridge style machine boasts quick acceleration / deceleration rates of 8.5m/sec2 which are necessary to meet the demanding contouring requirements for the die mold industry. Feed rates on the HSC500 reach 590 inches/minute. Linear scales are standard on all axes to provide accurate positioning during demanding machining cycles. High quality linear roller guides ensure unparalled rigidity and the smooth operation required to provide superior surface finishes. Spindle offerings include high performance, thermally-chilled spindles that achieve speeds up to 30,000 RPM with HSK40E tooling and 40,000 RPM with HSK32E tooling. The HSC500 features the powerful Heidenhain iTNC 530 control as standard equipment. The iTNC530 offers the state-of the art performance necessary for handling the large files required for high contour feed rate accuracy. The standard work envelope in X, Y, Z measures 20" x 16" x 16" and the maximum table load is 660 lbs.

The HSC 500 is designed to be configured for copper and graphite electrodes, and/or hard metal machining. The graphite version comes standard with a down draft table and is pre-wired for integration with an optional dust extractor for optimum graphite electrode work. For hard milling, a mist lubrication system is included as standard equipment. This machine is a powerhouse in performance and productivity, its rigid structure lends itself to demanding hard milling applications. The HSC500 is pre-configured for automated pallet changing systems by virtue of a fully integrated automatic door and comes standard with Renishaw tool length setting probe. A fourth axis interface is also available.

"The HSC500 offers extremely competitive specifications at highly affordable prices. This combination offers forward thinking companies the competitive edge required to compete in today's mold and die market. " says Andrew McNamara, U.S. Sales Manager.
