Toyoda Machinery Shows New Matrix Magazine and Tool Management Software at IMTS 2002

Arlington Heights -- June 1, 2002 -- Toyoda's FA550 horizontal machining center will be paired with a new 204-tool magazine and tool management software at IMTS.

The new large capacity, stationary tool storage rack accommodates up to 340 tools in a small space and at about the same height as the machine itself. It easily handles large tools up to 8.5 inches and 80 lbs. A special tool gripper is driven by servo motor and travels at 80 ipm. The 204-pocket magazine delivers a tool from the furthest position in less than 15 seconds. A safe and convenient set up rack allows operation to continue during tool loading.

The FA550 will also feature OP Supporter software, which improves
productivity by reducing job setup time and enhancing tool and pallet management. OP Supporter provides a convenient overview of the tool magazine and confirms that the right sub-programs and tools are ready for each job. Tool change speed is automatically adjusted according to tool weight to optimize cycle time. The software's maintenance functions are designed to simplify diagnostics and provide an ongoing reminder of preventative maintenance tasks.

Toyoda's FA550 boxway machine achieves positioning and cutting speeds of 1417 ipm . It is equipped with a 30 hp, direct drive 50-taper spindle providing infinitely variable speeds between 100 and 14,000 rpm. An extremely flat power curve makes the FA550 suitable for the hardest steels or any non-ferrous applications.

*For a demonstration of the new magazine and software visit Toyoda at booth #8018 during IMTS 2002.
