Okuma & Howa Introduces 800VH - The Latest in 5-Axis Multi-Plane Machining - at IMTS 2004

A highlight of the Okuma & Howa display in the KGK Booth #8745 at IMTS 2004 was the Millac 800VH machining center. The unique design permits precision production of complex parts in the medium-size range, such as impellers, turbine blades and electronic communication equipment, with simplicity and precision. The 800mm x 800mm (31.5in square) pallet delivers a generous cutting area for 5-axis applications. Standard spindle speed is 10,000 rpm powered by an 81.5/22kW drive. The full CNC indexing table (C-axis) utilizes a curvic coupling equipped with scaled feedback standard and delivers a clamping force of 11,760Nm (8,675 lbsft). The tool magazine holds 80 CAT 50 tools, and tool change time is 4 seconds. An X, Y and Z axis of 1,020mm (40.16in) permits handling of oversized parts and allows generous space for robotic loading.

Higher Production for Multi-Plane Parts
The full 5-axis 800VH is a superior production machine for complex multi-plane parts. Additionally, it provides increased efficiency, reduced tooling costs and less changeover time when used with more conventional 3- or 4-axis applications.

Okuma & Howa's tradition of "quality through accuracy" is evident in the high rigidity and heavy-duty construction of the machine. Incorporating heat-treated box ways and a box-type bed, the 800VH is designed for precision production over a long machine life. Production capability is enhanced by the standard automatic pallet changer.

Mark Davis, Product Manager for Okuma & Howa, states, "The 800VH offers the extremely favorable price/value relationship demanded by today's shop owners and large-scale manufacturers. The popularity of 5-axis machining, both for complex parts and for simpler set-up on more standard applications, is a must to remain competitive in the current manufacturing climate, and the 800VH represents an excellent 5-axis "starter" or an addition to an existing production line for complex parts."
