Cognex Introduces Industrial-Grade Vision Sensors

In-Sight® Sets A New Industry Standard for Machine Vision

Natick, MA, March 24, 2004-Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ - CGNX), the world's leading supplier of machine vision systems and vision sensors, announced today that it has expanded its family of In-Sight vision sensors to include two new models-the In-Sight 5100 and the In-Sight 5400. With four times the processing power of comparably priced vision sensors and a rugged industrial design, these products set a new industry standard for machine vision.

Both models meet IEC specifications for shock and vibration, and achieve an IP67 (NEMA 6) rating for dust and wash-down protection. "These are true industrial-grade vision sensors that can be deployed virtually anywhere on the factory floor," said Jim Hoffmaster, Chief Operating Officer for Cognex. "These new products deliver levels of ruggedness and performance never before seen in a vision sensor."

The In-Sight 5100, a high performance vision sensor, and the 5400, a very high performance vision sensor, deliver the best price/performance available today. In addition to powerful processing, both models acquire up to 60 full frames per second. When a full image is not required, even higher speeds are possible using partial acquisition.

"The In-Sight 5400 is really built to last," said Matt Quinn, partner at Epic Vision Solutions Inc., a St. Louis-based vision integrator serving the consumer products and automotive industries. "With its M12 connectors and metal housing, the 5400 is a product our customers can depend on to hold up over time, even in their toughest applications. The In-Sight 5400 also allows us to acquire images at very high speeds, without sacrificing image quality."

As with other In-Sight vision sensors, the In-Sight 5100 and 5400 include a full library of Cognex vision tools that offer unparalleled vision performance with powerful image processing and analysis tools. The unique vision spreadsheet and In-Sight Explorer software make application development and network administration fast and simple. In-Sight Explorer provides advanced tools to connect, configure, operate, expand, and maintain a vision network-whether using one vision sensor or one hundred.

The In-Sight 5100 and 5400 machine vision sensors are available now.
