The Dow Chemical Company today announced UCON(TM) OSP base fluid technology played an expanded role in a breakthrough performance of the OAK Racing team in the 6 Hours of Silverstone race, part of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup. Building on the successful use of transmission fluid in the famed 24 hours of Le Mans in June, OAK Racing's stable of race cars used both motor oil and transmission fluid based on the UCON(TM) OSP base fluid technology in the September 11 Silverstone race in Northhamptonshire, UK.
OAK Racing's #24 car finished third overall in the premier LMP1 class at Silverstone and was the highest placed finisher among gasoline powered entries in the race. The #15 OAK Racing LMP1 car finished in 5th place in the LMP2 class, while the #35 LMP2 entry finished 15th overall and first in the class' ILMC classification.
Produced by Belgium-based MAJOT, SA, the lubricant formulations earned their place in the drive trains of the three OAK Racing cars at Silverstone after a transmission fluid developed with UCON(TM) OSP base fluid helped two OAK Racing cars withstand the demands of speed and endurance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Out of a total field of 56, the OAK Racing cars were among only 28 still running at the end of the 24-hour competition. OAK Racing says its experience at Le Mans and in earlier trials has shown that the new fluids boost the power and performance of its cars while providing essential drive train protection under demanding race conditions.
Engine oil developed with UCON(TM) OSP base fluid proved successful most recently in the three-car OAK Racing team competing at the 6 Hours of Imola, held July 3 in Italy. The engine oil, combined with transmission fluid developed with UCON(TM) OSP, contributed to a 1:34.746 qualifying lap time posted by the team's LMP1 premier class entry, which was the fastest time among gasoline powered qualifiers.

Le Mans Prototypes (LMP), like those fielded by OAK Racing, are high performance open and closed cockpit vehicles that include LMP1 and LMP2 models. LMP1 cars are powered by custom engines and tend to be faster while LMP2 cars are less powerful but lighter in weight.
