Original Press Release:
NKK Switches Offers Low-Profile Socket that Increases Reliability While Simplifying Board Assembly
Scottsdale, Ariz. (September 2, 2003) - NKK Switches, a leading manufacturer of pushbuttons, and its authorized North American representatives now offer a low-profile socket for the company's popular IS Series SMARTSWITCH(tm).
The new socket allows designers to use rigorous automated soldering and washing, enabling designers to simplify board assembly. Once the socket has been processed, the SMARTSWITCH(tm) can be easily plugged into the board. Because the switch is not subjected to the rigors and heat of automated assembly, reliability and functionality are improved.
The new socket's dimensions can easily facilitate the high-density, side-by-side panel or PCB mounting of the SMARTSWITCH(tm) LCD pushbuttons. The low-profile socket also allows for quick and easy field replacement of switches when required.
NKK's IS Series SMARTSWITCH(tm) pushbuttons feature a high-visibility liquid crystal display that can be programmed to display graphics and alphanumeric characters for a wide range of applications. The SMARTSWITCH(tm) is also capable of displaying animation sequences that prompt operators through a series of error-free actuations. In addition, the device's LED backlighting can be programmed to flash, indicating the need for immediate action.
The SMARTSWITCH(tm) series from NKK features pushbuttons with both bright and super-bright LED backlights in different colors and bi-color combinations. The LED backlights are combined with several types of liquid crystal displays, including yellow STN positive, blue STN negative and black and white FSTN positive modes to create a combination suitable for a wide range of appearances and applications.
The SMARTSWITCH(tm) series also includes LCD indicator modules of 36x24 pixels. These bright and super-bright compact indicators are becoming widely used as a cost-effective programmable, pixel-based interface for status indication, mnemonic labeling, and graphic communications.
