Low-Profile Connector suits portable design applications.

Press Release Summary:

Measuring 0.9 mm high, SFVL series connectors terminate flexible printed circuits and flexible flat cable in products such as mobile phones and PDAs. Surface-mount, 0.5 mm pitch connector is available in 4-8 positions with upper and lower contact configurations and dimensions as small as 16 mm². Back flip actuator facilitates cable insertion and prevents mismating, while cable lock increases cable retention force and allows visual check for proper cable insertion.

FCI Introduces Low Profile Connector for Portable Design Applications

ETTERS, PA. (February 23, 2005)--FCI, a leading manufacturer of connectors and interconnect systems, announces the release of its new low profile 0.5mm pitch surface mount connector for terminating Flexible Printed Circuits (FPC) and Flexible Flat Cable (FFC). The SFVL series, a mere 0.9mm high, is designed for use in cable-to-board connections requiring compact, miniature and low-profile components, such as mobile phones and PDAs. In addition to offering the smallest footprint on the market, the SFVL provides features that include a back flip actuator for easy cable handling and a cable lock for increased retention force and mating alignment.

"Handheld device manufacturers are responding to customer demands for greater functionality without increasing the size of the devices, so the components within these products must be smaller. But FCI realizes that easy application and ruggedness are just as important to system designers," said Sean Riley, FCI Regional Market Manager. "We've added features that are not available with similar products on the market."

The SFVL's back flip actuator feature allows for easy cable insertion and also prevents against mismating. In addition, the cable lock feature assures correct mating, while increasing cable retention force and allowing a visual check that the cable is properly inserted.

The SFVL series (part number series 59453) is available in four through eight positions in upper and lower contact configurations. With dimensions as small as 16mm², the SFVL takes up less board space than any other comparable product on the market.

Pricing for a four-position connector is $.45 at 10,000 pieces.
