Rockwell Automation Enhances Scalabilty of Integrated Architecture by Expanding MP-Series Product Family with Compact, Low-Inertia Servo Motors



Addition of small-frame sizes to MP-Series family of motors provides OEMs and end users expanded options for motion control in space-limited applications

MILWAUKEE, May 11, 2006 - Rockwell Automation announced that it is adding two new frame sizes to the Allen-Bradley MP-Series Low Inertia servo motor family. These Allen Bradley small frame size servo motors offer OEMs and end users a solution ideal for applications like small filling machines and pick-and-place material handling applications which require compact and powerful servo motors.

The MP-Series Small Frame servo motors are highly dynamic motors with environmentally sealed connectors for extra protection in applications where the motor is
exposed to wet environments or significant amounts of dust. Available in two frame sizes - 63 mm and 75 mm - the motor is designed for supply voltage up to 460 volts with a continuous stall torque range from .26 N-m to 2.1 N-m for use in a wide range of motion control applications. The new small frame motors will also be available with speeds up to 8000 rpm for high-speed machines. System designers familiar with Rockwell Automation Motion Analyzer software, used to selecting the optimum motors and drives for a machine, can save time in design and reduce training costs by using the same software for sizing the MP-Series Low Inertia Small Frame motor.

The new motor provides high-resolution encoder feedback. A multiturn encoder option provides access to motor position information within 4,096 revolutions, giving end users a reliable motion control solution that eliminates the need to perform complex and labor-intensive homing commands during machine setup. Unlike many competitive products, the multiturn encoders in all MP-Series motors do not require a battery for retaining position information. In addition, Allen-Bradley Smart Motor Technology ensures that the motor model number and motor parameters are pre-loaded inside the encoder to simplify machine setup and enhance motor-drive communication.

The 230- and 460-volt versions of the MP-Series Low Inertia Small Frame servo motor, with single-turn and multiturn encoder feedback, along with brake versions and 2,000 line incremental encoder versions, will be available in mid 2006.
