"We absolutely needed much more automation, control, and visibility over all the processes we run through our datacenter on a daily basis," said Alan White, enterprise integration manager at LDH Energy. Because of the nature of LDH Energy's business, the IT group has to handle data from a large number of external sources. They have to be able to stage that data in order to manage its integration. This means carefully controlling its processes for business analysis and data mining, which are largely custom processes. These processes must be accurately compiled for the front office, research, or trader level with current data. If some data is missing or not current, then the proper analysis cannot be compiled, and that can affect business decisions.
"A big challenge for us was in scheduling all these data sources and seeing what was going on in the bigger context," said White. "For example, LDH Energy has recently added new software systems that include their own schedulers. Further, our legacy systems also have their own scheduling. We didn't have any tools that allowed us to monitor job scheduling activities across all of these platforms. Often we had to manually manage these processes because they did not coordinate with each other. Tidal Enterprise Scheduler can be used to schedule ETL jobs and manage the dependencies across other systems as well so that enterprise workflow visibility is never a problem. Before Tidal we had schedules in three or four different places and had no easy way to know if the work stream was complete for the day."
In addition to the automation provided by Tidal Enterprise Scheduler, customer service was a big issue in LDH Energy's selection process. White explains, "Any time we reached out to Tidal, we got immediate customer service. That wasn't the case with some of the other companies we evaluated. In one case we called and were told that someone would get back to us. When someone did respond, it was to ask what product we wanted. Then they advised that yet another person would contact us. We could not seem to get appropriate focus on our needs."
