Agilent Technologies Introduces First Modular Logic Analyzer with Hosted Capabilities

16900 Series Logic Analyzers Take Advantage of Advanced Computer and Network Technology to Achieve Fastest Measurement Control and Analysis in Industry

PALO ALTO, Calif., March 1, 2004 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced the industry's first modular logic analyzer with hosted capabilities. The Agilent 16900 Series multithreading architecture takes full advantage of gigabit local area networks (Gbit LANs) and the latest in multi-processor, large memory computer technology to achieve the fastest performance in the industry.

The Agilent 16900 Series platform, powered by Windows(TM) XP, offers three modular mainframe choices that give customers the flexibility to configure a system that meets today's measurement needs while providing expandability for the future. It is an essential tool for R&D engineers in the computer, communications, semiconductor, aerospace/defense, automotive, and wireless industries for validating and debugging basic logic, embedded systems, and high-speed digital designs.

"The features designed into Agilent's next-generation logic analyzer system are based on extensive input from our customers, who comprise the largest installed base of logic analyzer users in the world," said Ron Nersesian, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Design Validation Division. "The fast analysis capabilities and flexibility to expand systems will help our customers keep pace with the rapid increase in digital system complexity and speed."

Agilent 16900 Series Logic Analyzer Mainframes

The Agilent 16900 Series logic analyzer system includes three mainframes that feature Agilent's award-winning(1) user interface and modular debug support for the most popular microprocessors and buses. All three mainframes incorporate Agilent's hosted mode feature, which allows users to host the logic analysis application software on a computer and provides remote access and control from any Windows-based computer on the network. Designers can use hosted mode to make a specific measurement and analyze the result on their own computer while the logic analysis system is making other measurements. For example, with a Gbit LAN link between a server and a 16900A logic analysis mainframe, design teams can harness the compute power of the server to control the logic analyzer, capture deep traces, and quickly analyze the acquisition data.

The 16900A and 16902A mainframes can operate in standalone or multiframe configurations. This enables more design team members to have access to an individual logic analyzer, while also providing the ability to connect multiple frames into a single measurement system to solve complex issues where channel count requirements go beyond a single frame. The 16900A, which accepts up to six acquisition modules, uses an external display. The six-slot 19602A and the three-slot 16903A come equipped with an integrated touch screen display, making them very convenient to use in space-limited environments or in a rack mounted system.

Agilent 16900 Series Logic Analyzer Acquisition Modules

Agilent's three new 16900 Series logic analyzer acquisition modules all provide 4 GHz timing (250 ps sampling) simultaneously with state measurements, eliminating the need to double probe. The 68-channel 16950A module offers 600 MHz state speed while the 102-channel 16910A and 68-channel 16911A modules provide up to 450 MHz state speed.

The 16900 Series logic analyzer modules allow independent installation of acquisition memory depth upgrades and state speed upgrades. This feature enables digital development teams to purchase just what they need, and upgrade either memory depth or state speed as their needs evolve.
