Companies such as Hill-Rom, Perkin Elmer, and hi5 are Taking Advantage of Freeway On-Demand Translation Management from Anywhere in the World with No License Fees
WALTHAM, Mass., Feb. 20 -- Lionbridge Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:LIOX) today announced that the Logoport(TM) web-based translation memory and linguistic tools platform is now in use in over 700 client engagements daily, and more than 14,000 individual translators are accessing the platform from around the globe. In addition, more than 300 customers are currently using Freeway(TM), Lionbridge's free, web-based translation management platform. Clients and translators have chosen the power of free, on-demand translation software to accelerate their time to global markets and to lower costs, without buying and deploying costly software systems.
The number of projects processed through the Freeway platform has increased nearly ten-fold in the past year as customers rely on the Freeway platform for a greater number of projects and programs. Clients such as Sybase, LRN, Westtek, Cold Jet, SolidWorks, Tapiola Group, Boss Media, SEGITTUR, WebTech Wireless, TeamStudio, NETELLER, and others, are using the Freeway platform for their translation process.
"By working with Lionbridge and their Freeway system, we've expanded our service to include eleven more language options -- all of which were turned around quickly," said Mukund Bhagavan, director of strategy for hi5, a leading international social network with more than 70 million members in over 200 nations. "As part of our focus to deliver a valuable and relevant experience for our diverse global membership, we now provide language coverage for 80% of the world's Internet users, with more translations in the works."
Freeway momentum continues to build as more customers deploy the automated Web Services connection to their existing content management solutions, without licensing, deploying, or integrating Global Management Systems (GMS) or costly Global Information Management (GIM) software. These customers recognize that their existing systems have all of the native functionality required to manage the translation process when coupled with the Freeway and Logoport platforms.
Logoport -- the numbers tell the story
Logoport is the only online translation tool that unites thousands of translators in real-time collaboration, enables virtual workgroup configuration across the globe, and updates all data instantaneously. The Logoport translator community continues to grow with more than 2,000 translators accessing the system each day. Average monthly production volumes have nearly doubled from 36 million words in January 2007, to more than 60 million words in recent months. In total, almost 500 million words were translated interactively using the Logoport platform in 2007, in addition to the several hundred million words automatically translated at reduced or no cost by leveraging translation memories(TM).
In a recent multi-million dollar program delivered for a major Lionbridge client, the Logoport platform and Lionbridge's full suite of language automation tools provided substantially better translation leverage and re- use, delivering over 20% in proven cost savings, when compared with another commercial translation memory product.
Additional technology highlights include:
o Open Standards: Underscoring Lionbridge's commitment to open standards and industry neutrality, the Logoport platform offers native support for XLIFF, standardizes file transfers, and streamlines how content in a multitude of formats is delivered, translated, and returned to clients.
o Machine Translation Integration: The Logoport platform's real-time(TM) sequencing capability allows for the easy integration of any machine translation (MT) engine. In one customer case, several million words were post-edited by applying the combination of both rule- and statistical-based MT systems with Logoport, significantly reducing the number of hours required for human translation.
o Scalable Architecture: The move to a 64-bit architecture, as well as optimization of the fuzzy search mechanisms, improves processing and server response times by a factor of 30x, as measured by Lionbridge internal benchmarks.
o Enhanced Quality Tools: The expansion of an array of automated quality control tools within the Logoport platform ensures high quality translations, and shortens the manual, post translation QA processes for Lionbridge clients.
"As record numbers of customers and translators experience the power of our free, on-demand language technology platform, we have focused on streamlining translation workflows and enhancing the user experience," said Dave Flanagan, Chief Information Officer, Lionbridge. "Through these improved processes, we are now able to support a much wider range of users from both the client and translator sides of the translation project. This opens up new opportunities as we continue to enable community-based translations, bring more translators to individual projects, and systematically use other language solutions such as machine translation on our clients' projects, and for their benefit."
Both the Freeway and Logoport platforms are offered for free to Lionbridge clients and its translation partners as the foundation of a high quality and cost effective, managed service approach to translation. The Freeway platform helps customers reduce turnaround times, lower the total cost of production, and reach new markets quickly, without investing in additional staff or software licenses.
