Arcom Launches Linux Development Kit for 533MHz IXP425 XScale Based Single Board Computer

Kansas City, USA and Cambridge, England - July, 2004 - An embedded Linux Development Kit for Arcom's IXP425 XScale based network processor board is now available. The Intel IXP425 based MERCURY board includes two 100baseTx Ethernet ports, four high speed USB 2.0 ports, three RS-232 ports and one RS-422/485 port. The board is also fitted with 64Mbytes of soldered DRAM and 16Mbytes of Flash memory, along with a CompactFlash port and PC/104 expansion bus.

The Development Kit is a ready-to-run embedded Linux system with full support for all on-board peripherals. The operating system also supports the Ethernet based hardware accelerated encryption (AES, DES, 3DES) and authentication (SHA-1, MD5) capabilities of the IXP425 device. By using its integrated network processor engines, the MERCURY provides secure, high performance Ethernet based communications, with an embedded VPN gateway throughput of 50Mbits/s. The combination of the standard Linux kernel, integrated drivers and communication utilities means the Development Kit can be used to quickly create remote monitoring systems, security appliances and wireless industrial network gateways.

The Development Kit includes the IXP425 based MERCURY PC/104 single board computer fitted with 64Mbytes of DRAM, 16Mbytes of AMD MirrorBit Flash and 256Kbytes of SRAM. The board is housed inside a low cost compact enclosure (MERCURY-ICE) with breakout cables and tamper detect switch. The kit also includes an AC PSU, cables to connect to your host system, and a comprehensive information/software CD.
