NEC Unified Solutions Launches UNIVERGE IP Communications Solution for Mid-Market Customers

- New UNIVERGE SV7000 MPS Reduces Cost of Deploying Converged Networks at Medium-Sized Organizations -

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 7 -- VoiceCon 2005 Conference & Expo, Booth #315 -- NEC Unified Solutions (NEC), a leader in integrated communications solutions for the enterprise, today announced the latest component in its highly acclaimed UNIVERGE(TM) architecture, the UNIVERGE SV7000 Multi-Purpose Server (MPS) Linux-based IP voice communications platform. Developed for the SMB market, the new platform will dramatically reduce the entry-level point for deploying voice and data over a single network.

"Almost 6% of medium-sized businesses currently use an IP PBX, with an expected penetration of over 20% by 2008," said Michael Lauricella, vice president, SMB Communications Research, AMI-Partners." "Cost of deployment and skepticism of the technology are two of the major factors that need to be addressed to meet that level of penetration." NEC's UNIVERGE SV7000 MPS will reduce the average per port cost of implementing a pure IP solution by approximately 40%, a significant reduction over its competitors. Furthermore, the SV7000 MPS provides the same features, function and terminal operation as its SV7000 counterpart.

The NEC UNIVERGE(TM) SV7000 MPS is a full-featured SIP-enabled telephony server that provides call-control for up to 750 IP stations. Customers can deploy any of NEC's enterprise communications applications including unified messaging and the company's award-winning OpenWorX(TM) Communications Portal and UNIVERGE MA4000 management suite. NEC designed the SV7000 MPS to be fully survivable in case of disasters and have the ability to be deployed anywhere on an enterprise network.

The UNIVERGE(TM) SV7000 MPS can also be used as a high density media controller or gateway for off- premise analog station and trunking support and in remote office configurations as a survivable stand-alone module that automatically assumes control of branch office connectivity should a first direct connection be cut. The mid-market platform also supports ISDN PRI, ISDN BRI and analog COT trunking, which ensures previous investments in these technologies can continue to add value in an update infrastructure.

"This new solution provides a level of investment protection medium-sized enterprises can only really get from NEC," said David King, vice president of marketing and sales support, "and NEC has thousands of customers across verticals including healthcare, education and hospitality that rely on the ability to build on their investments, not discard them for the latest technology trend."

The UNIVERGE(TM) SV7000 MPS is expected to begin shipping from NEC Unified Solutions and qualified resellers at the end of Q2 2005.
