Liner Board has moisture-resistant surface.
Press Release Summary:
ToughGard(TM) thermal and acoustical board, with damage-resistant composite airstream surface, has breathable coating that preserves sound-dampening performance. Composed of rotary-glass fibers bonded with thermosetting resin, board has black nonwoven mat bonded to airstream surface to withstand air velocities to 6,000 fpm without fiber erosion. Air stream surface contains antimicrobial agent and withstands temperatures from 35 to 250°F.
Original Press Release:
Toughgard(TM) Rigid Liner Board Now Includes Moisture-Resistant Enhanced Surface
Designed for large ducts, plenums
VALLEY FORGE, PA, NOVEMBER 2002 - CertainTeed has extended its new moisture-resistant Enhanced Surface to its ToughGard(TM) Rigid Liner Board product, which is used primarily as an acoustical liner in large sheet metal ducts, plenums, and equipment housing that supply conditioned air.
The rigid thermal and acoustical board, featuring the ToughGard(TM) tougher, smoother, more damage-resistant composite airstream surface, also includes the surface coating the repels moisture approximately 40% more effectively than standard rigid liner board. The "breathable" coating preserves the sound-dampening performance of the product. The Enhanced Surface feature had previously been added to ToughGard Duct Liner, ToughGard R Duct Liner, and ToughGard Duct Board, all the alleviate some specifiers' concerns if moisture entering poorly designed and maintained HVAC systems.
ToughGard Rigid Liner Board with Enhanced Surface, composed of rotary-glass fibers bonded together with a thermosetting resin, is part of CertainTeed's ToughGard family of IAQ-sensitive HVAC insulation products. It provides specifiers with a more complete selection of CertainTeed insulation products when designing HVAC duct systems.
The black nonwoven mat bonded to the airstream surface of ToughGard Rigid Liner Board with Enhanced Surface adds strength to the product and holds up to higher air velocities without fiber erosion, while improving system efficiency. The mat surface serves also as a barrier against the infiltration of duct and dirt into the insulation. The air stream surface contains an EPA registered antimicrobial agent in order to reduce the potential of microbial growth that may affect this product. The antimicrobial properties are intended to only protect this product.
ToughGard Rigid Liner Board with Enhanced Surface is designed for systems operating at velocities up to 6000 fpm and temperatures from 35° F. to 250° F. It meets all the requirements of ASTM C 1071, NFPA 90A and 90B, and the CABO, BOCA, ICBO, SBCCI, and ICC model building codes.
Condensation on exterior duct surfaces is also controlled when the rigid liner board is used, potentially resulting in improved IAQ by reducing unwanted moisture.
ToughGard Rigid Liner Board with Enhanced Surface absorbs unwanted equipment, air rush, and break out noise. Its thermal properties help reduce heat loss and gain, reducing HVAC system operating costs, energy consumption, and emissions into the atmosphere.
ToughGard Rigid Liner Board with Enhanced Surface will not deteriorate or provide sustenance for vermin or rodents and will not corrode the sheet metal it insulates.
