Axsys Technologies Introduces Innovative Monorail Linear Air Bearing System for Design Engineers
ROCHESTER HILLS, MI - December 29, 2003 - Axsys Technologies, a leader in precision motion, announced today the immediate availability of their innovative single-axis linear air bearing system. Axsys' Monorail platform features precisely engineered air-bearing surfaces coupled with direct drive linear motor technology to create a high-resolution positioning system. This non-contact design permits extremely low velocity ripple during motion without the need for lubricants, reducing the risk of contamination and making it suitable for clean room operation.
The Monorail system offers design engineers a turnkey solution for applications including flat panel display manufacturing, semiconductor processing, and critical digital imaging due to its excellent pitch / yaw characteristics as well as unsurpassed velocity control. By utilizing a dovetail design for the air bearing, the system provides excellent horizontal, vertical, and angular stiffness of up to 1 million lbs per inch.
This linear air-bearing system offers a variety of features and benefits including an open carriage design that provides a great deal of flexibility in OEM component mounting. Additionally, the monorail system's centerline motor design eliminates off-axis torque to provide more stable motion. Both analog and digital versions of the encoder positioning system are available. The digital version has a resolution of 1 micron, while the analog version when coupled with an external multiplier box can reach resolutions of 20 nanometers.
