Linear Actuator measures 0.8 in. square.

Press Release Summary:

Size 8 hybrid external linear actuator replaces motor, coupling, lead screw, and nut. Shaft to lead screw couplers are not needed and rotating acme stainless steel lead screw is incorporated into motor's rotor. Available in resolutions from 0.0015-0.04 mm per full step, actuator delivers up to 10 lb thrust and has 4 in. of visible lead screw. Lead screw length, coil termination, and external nut can be customized to fit application requirements.

Original Press Release:

The Worlds Smallest Linear Actuator

Waterbury, CT - Haydon Switch & Instrument Inc. is proud to offer a Size 8 hybrid external linear actuator, the newest compact addition to our extensive line of award winning motors. The compact size of 21mm square (0.8") makes this - the world's smallest linear actuator. Haydon's external linear actuator replaces four different components - a motor, coupling, lead screw, and nut. Shaft to lead screw couplers are not needed with this design, thus saving time, money and labor during assembly into the final application assembly. The rotating acme stainless steel lead screw is incorporated into the motor's rotor.

This external linear hybrid actuator is available in a wide variety of resolutions ranging from 0.0015mm to 0.04mm per full step and delivers thrust of up to 4.5Kg (10 lbs.) without compromising long life or cost. A standard size 8 external linear has 4" of visible lead screw; however lead screw length, coil termination, and the external nut, can be customized to fit your application requirements.

In this design, the lead screw is an integral part of the motor with a mating nut translating along the screw. As the motor steps, the lead screw rotates but does not advance. This is the best overall design approach for obtaining linear travel in confined spaces. The lead screw end can be machined to allow the use of out-board bearing support for long lead screw lengths.

Applications requiring precise positioning and rapid motion are best suited for this motor. Typical applications include medical equipment, X-Y Tables, instrumentation, automation of any kind, valve control and many more. Competitively priced, this product is ideal for drop-in replacements to improve performance and life or for incorporation into your next project. In addition to standard configurations, HSI can custom design this motor to meet your specific application requirements.
