Lincoln Electric Takes Its Product Demos on the Road

Customers get first-hand experience with Lincoln equipment and technology

Cleveland - Lincoln Electric has found a creative way to bring its equipment, technology and materials right to the customer's doorstep - its mobile demonstration trucks.

Serving as a "showroom on wheels," Lincoln's nine trucks - seven in the United States and two in Canada - allow sales representatives to bring Lincoln equipment right to current and prospective customers.

Outfitted with the latest Lincoln equipment, sales team members are able to pull up to a customer or event, open the side of the truck and have the equipment set up and ready to show in 10 minutes for a new product demonstration or in 45 minutes for a more detailed application presentation.

On-board equipment, materials and welding wire allow for demonstration of TIG, MIG, stick and pulse-on-pulse welding, plasma cutting and much more. Equipment includes Power MIG 140-180, Precision TIG 225, Air Vantage 500, Power MIG 215 & 350 MP, Invertec V160-T, V205-T, Invertec V275-S and V350-PRO, and Pro-Cut 25 and 55 plasma cutters, as well as a wire feeders, welding wire and personal protection equipment. The equipment can be customized and easily switched with other pieces depending on a particular customer's needs.

In addition to customer visits, the trucks, which only take up three parking spots, are used at open houses, factory training, distributor training, trade shows and vocational education events.

"These trucks give us unbelievable flexibility and empower our sales staff. They can be customized for the customer or event. And they serve as a tool for our distributors to demo products to their customers," explained David Mate, Lincoln's creator and manager of the mobile truck fleet. "It allows us to cross sell our products and showcase machines that might not normally be seen. With these trucks, there are no barriers to showing customers, distributors and attendees exactly how their businesses can benefit from the latest in Lincoln welders, equipment and technology."

New York-based distributor Airweld Inc., along with its two sister companies Bronx Welding Supplies and Atlantic Welding, have used a Lincoln truck a number of times for open houses and customer demonstrations.

"Lincoln's truck is a great business tool for us. We're able to provide a valuable, hands-on experience for our customers without pulling individual pieces of equipment out of inventory. And because the truck is self contained, there's virtually no disruption to our daily operations when the truck is on site," said Chris Leahy, Airweld president. "It's easy to use. It's customer friendly and helps us reinforce our commitment to our customers by providing them access to the latest technology and welding solutions."

Lincoln will expand its fleet with an eighth U.S. truck in this quarter.

The Lincoln Electric Company, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, is the world leader in the design, development and manufacture of arc welding products, robotic arc-welding systems, plasma and oxyfuel cutting equipment and has a leading global position in the brazing and soldering alloys market.
