BivarOpto(TM) Introduces Second-Generation Light Pipe Materials Featuring 60% Contrast Ratio Improvement

Irvine, CA, September 17, 2003 - BivarOpto(TM), the Optoelectronics Division of Bivar, Inc., has announced the availability of a new, optional, high-contrast material for their Light Pipe products family. The second-generation materials provide a 60% improved contrast ratio for light transmission of surface or through-hole mounted LEDs.

Featuring the use of a new 94V-O compliant custom polycarbonate compound from GE, the light pipes are white-diffused in off-state appearance and take full color when in the on-state. The materials will be available by special order across the Bivar line of SLP, LP, VLPR and PLP Series Light Pipes, and the lens caps of the company's award winning line of Flexible Light Pipe (FLP Series) products. These precision molded products are designed to offer designers a choice of alternative mounting, display and fixturing solutions that carry light from SMD and through-hole LEDs typically mounted on PCBs to front panels of a host of applications, such as portable computer products, peripherals, instrumentation, medical and scientific equipment, industrial controls and telecommunications. The new higher contrast ratio ability opens the door to uses for indoor displays, office equipment, building automation, motion sensors and motion control applications.

Anthony Vilgiate, Vice President, Strategic Business Development, stated, "We have seen a very positive response from our core customers in the availability of this new compound in our light pipe products. The difference in appearance for indoor displays is remarkable."

The new BivarOpto(TM) High Contrast Ratio (HCR) Light Pipes will be provided on special order with lead times less than six weeks. Free samples are available for evaluation. For more information, contact Bivar, Inc. at 1-800-772-2377, or visit www.bivar.com.
