Light Pipes have dual-lens geometry.

Press Release Summary:

Suited for use with SMT or through-hole LEDs, 5 mm Series PLP 5 Panel Light Pipes enable designers to locate PCBs directly behind panels to assure evenly lighted indicators. Lens geometry at base of light pipes creates concave collector to gather full brightness and intensity of LED, to concentrate and forward it to convex viewing surface. Molded from 94V-O polycarbonate, light pipes have tight, press-fit design that protects against RFI and EMI noise leaks.

BivarOpto(TM) Announces New 5mm Panel Light Pipe Series Featuring Dual-Lens Geometry For Improved Display Intensity

Irvine, CA, November 11, 2003 - BivarOpto(TM), the Optoelectronics Division of Bivar, Inc., introduces a new 5mm Panel Light Pipe (PLP 5) Series featuring a new lens geometry that creates improved lighting intensity for use with surface mounted or through-hole LEDs. The PLP 5 design enables designers to immediately locate PCBs directly behind panels with assurance of brighter, evenly lighted indicators.

The new lens geometry at the base of the light pipe creates a concave "collector" to gather the full brightness and intensity of the LED, to concentrate and forward it to the convex viewing surface for optimal light distribution and uniform appearance.

The PLP 5 Series can be "press fit" by hand from the front of the display panel (fits into 0.220 inch / 5.6 mm hole). No additional hardware or special tools are required for installation, reducing assembly time and costs. For added design versatility and uniformity, they are available in lengths from 0.125 - 1.50 inches (3.2-38mm) in increments of 0.125' (3.2mm), in industry standard colors of red, green, yellow, blue and clear. The diffused dome lens provides even, full intensity light without degradation of the original light source. The tight fitting design also protects against RFI (radio frequency interference) and EMI (electromagnetic interference) "noise leaks."

Compatible with industry-standard surface mount and discrete through-hole LEDs, the PLP 5 Series is molded from 94V-O polycarbonate for maximum light transmission, the widest possible viewing angle and superior brightness. The PLP 5 Series can also be ordered in custom lengths and colors (subject to minimum quantities)

"The PLP 5 demonstrates the latest improvements in lens geometry for light pipes, with the use of dual lens (front and back), while maintaining a simple, cost-effective solution for a host of applications including portable computing, telecommunications, instrumentation and computer peripherals," said Anthony Vilgiate, Vice President, Strategic Business Development.

Available immediately from stock, the PLP 5 Series is priced from $ 0.15 each in production quantities. For more information, contact Bivar, Inc. at 1-800-772-2377, or visit www.bivar.com.
