BivarOpto(TM) Introduces Vertical Rectangular Light Pipes Offering Increased Versatility for OEM Designers
IRVINE, Calif. -Dec. 17, 2002- BivarOpto(TM), the Optoelectronics Division of Bivar, Inc., has introduced the new Vertical Rectangular Light Pipe (VLPR) Series, providing new versatility for applications where light from a SMD LED is carried directly to a front panel or enclosure.
Featuring a rectangular lens structure, ideally configured for flush or side view panel insertion, the new light pipes mount vertically, via crush pins to a SMD PCB. Narrow profile and small footprint design enable high density side-by-side installation for bar graph arrays or other applications requiring multiple indicators within a limited space. The VLPR Series is available in 0.500-inch (12.7mm) and 0.640-inch (16.25mm) heights, with custom sizes available upon request.
The BivarOpto VLPR Series provides circuit protection from accidental electrostatic discharge (ESD) by isolating the PCB from potential contact. The light pipes are manufactured with flame-retardant 94V-O compliant clear polycarbonate for maximum light transmission, mountable on 0.062 (1.6mm) x 0.185-inch (4.70mm) centers. Featuring a water clear lens appearance, these light pipes align perfectly via locating pins that are directly in line with the surface mounted LEDs.
The VLPR Series is compatible with all BivarOpto SM Series LEDs and offers cost-savings benefits by eliminating the need for through-hole components. Immediately available from stock, typical pricing in production quantities is under $0.20 each.
