DSI Offers Safeguarding Solutions for Pick and Place Robots

ANAHEIM, CA - Dunn Sales Inc. (DSI), an STI company, offers comprehensive safeguarding solutions for pick-and-place robot applications. One such solution consists of an STI safety light curtain and mirrors to provide three-sided protection of the robot's restricted space. The parts feeder and magazine are interlocked and guard the fourth side of the restricted space. The STI safety light curtains are interfaced with the robot controls using a design to ensure control reliability throughout the safety related control system.

Pick-and-place robots are used in the manufacture of components and assemblies for the automotive, aerospace and electronics industries. In some instances parts are fed from a vibratory feeder, down a magazine, to a pick up station. The robot picks up a part, turns it to the correct position, and installs the part in the machining fixture. As machining is complete, the robot removes the part and deposits it in a chute that leads to a parts tray for additional processing.
