Level Sensor offers non-linearity of less than 0.008%.

Press Release Summary:

Level Plus(R) M-Series Digital magnetostrictive level sensor provides digital communication interface for vessels from 18 in. to 60 ft deep. With Modbus output, user can view diagnostic registers that report status of float magnet, digital temperature sensors, volume calculation errors, and low signal trigger levels. Sensor operates in process temperatures from -40 to 257 deg F and outputs average and multi-point temperatures with accuracy of +/-0.5 deg F.

MTS SENSORS' LEVEL PLUS® M-SERIES DIGITAL OFFERS HIGH ACCURACY

CARY, NC (April 15, 2002) - MTS Systems Corporation, Sensors Division, offers the M-Series Digital magnetostrictive level sensor with non-linearity less than 0.008% F.S. and hysteresis of less than 0.002% F.S. Using a laser bed for final testing, the M-Series Digital's final test also generates a report to confirm that the gauge meets the specifications outlined above. In addition to this laser testing, each sensing element within each gauge is tested as a sub assembly to confirm its linearity.

Designed for use in both continuous and batch process control, bulk storage, precision inventory control as well as product level, interface level and temperature monitoring applications, the M-Series Digital meets the demand for a digital communication interface for vessels from 18 inches to 60 feet deep. The M-Series Digital is available with a Modbus output or a MTS DDA (ASCII) protocol. The Modbus protocol allows for a 100 point strapping table to be input as well as a volume correction table, which will compensate for changes in density due to temperature effects. This allows the M-Series Digital to output a corrected volume or mass reading.

The M-Series Digital with Modbus output enables the user to view diagnostic registers that report the status of the float magnet(s), digital temperature sensors, volume calculation errors and low signal trigger levels. Additionally, the Modbus version allows for the programming of low and high-level alarms for both level and interface applications.

The M-Series Digital will operate in process temperatures from -40 to 257°F (-40 to 125°C) and outputs average and multi-point temperatures (up to 5 digital thermometers) with a temperature accuracy of ±0.5°F (±0.28°C). The M-Series Digital computes the following variables: gross volume, net volume, mass and alarms.

Unlike radar sensing technology, which only senses level in a vessel, the M-Series Digital can sense inventory level, interface level and temperature measurement. The M-Series Digital can accomplish this with only one opening in the top of the vessel. This is very convenient for upgrades to existing tanks using older mechanical, capacitance or radar technologies. Other sensor technologies would require two or three openings to
measure interface level and temperature.
