Regulator is stable with ceramic or tantalum output capacitor, and capable of providing up to 500 mA of operating current. Fixed output voltages include 5.0, 3.3, 2.5, and 1.8 V. Unit is offered in thermally enhanced power SO-8, power MSOP-8, and SOT-223 packages.

Original Press Release:

Tiny Micropower LDO Regulator Provides High Output Current and Keep-Alive Voltage

Designed to serve low power stand-by mode applications, ranging from automotive to consumer products.

SAN JOSE, Calif -- (July 2, 2002) - The MIC5239 is a tiny, micropower low-dropout (LDO) regulator providing keep-alive voltage for power-sensitive applications ranging from notebook PCs to automotive electronics. The device is the latest addition to the growing family of low-power LDOs from Micrel Semiconductor (NASDAQ:MCRL), an industry leader in power management and high-speed communication ICs.

"The low quiescent current of 23uA and wide input voltage range of 2.3V to 30V enable this regulator to serve several markets," said John McGinty, senior product marketing engineer. "It is capable of providing up to 500mA of operating current, but when little or no current is drawn from the output, the quiescent current is only 23uA, making the device ideal for USB powered applications. "

"The MIC5239 is the newest member of Micrel's growing family of uCap LDOs, which means that it is stable with either ceramic or tantalum capacitors," said Mr. McGinty. "Since ceramic capacitors are more abundant, cheaper, and smaller, new designs using uCap LDOs can offer the end user such benefits as ready availability, lower cost and smaller size."

The MIC5239 is available in thermally enhanced power SO-8, power MSOP-8 and SOT-223 packages. Pricing starts at $1.64 when purchased in a quantity of 1,000 or more. Samples are available now, and production quantities are stock to 8 weeks ARO.
