LDO Regulator provides standby power.

Press Release Summary:

Low dropout regulator, in IttyBitty(TM) SOT-23-5 package, suits applications in portable and fixed systems and consume only 18 microA of quiescent current. Model MIC5233, with input voltage range of 2.3 to 36 V, supplies up to 100 mA of output current. Model MIC5235, with input voltage range of 2.3 to 24 V, supplies 150 mA. Applications include keep-alive circuits in battery or telecom systems, cell phones, PDAs, and portable PCs. Outputs are fixed or adjustable.

IttyBitty(TM) High Voltage, Micropower LDO Regulators for Stand-By Applications in Power Sensitive Electronics

...Unique combination of high input supply and low quiescent current

...for portable battery applications or in fixed telecom systems.

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- (April 5, 2002) -- Two micropower low dropout (LDO) regulators for stand-by applications in portable and fixed power-sensitive systems are now available from Micrel Semiconductor (NASDAQ: MCRL), an industry leader in power management and high-speed communication ICs.

Consuming only 18 microA of quiescent current, the MIC5233 is capable of supplying up to 100mA of output current, and the MIC5235 is capable of supplying 150mA. The MIC5233 supports an input voltage range of 2.3V to 36V, and the MIC5235 supports a range of 2.3V to 24V. Both devices are new additions to Micrel's line of IttyBitly(TM) SOT-23-5 LDO regulators featuring uCap capability which allows a choice of either ceramic or tantalum capacitors.

"The NIC5233 and MIC5235 are not limited to battery operated applications," said John McGinty, senior product marketing engineer. "The unique combination of high input supply and low quiescent current allows them to fit into a wide range of portable and fixed applications for providing a stand-by supply voltage."

"For example, the MIC5233 is suitable for keep-alive circuitry in 4-cell lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery applications where the input voltage can be as high as 30V or in fixed telecom systems that require low voltage bias supplies from a high voltage input," McGinty said. "Similarly, the MIC5235 is suitable for keep-alive circuitry in 3-cell lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery applications where input voltages can be as high as 24V -- or in a PDA where the input can be a one-cell Li-Ion battery."

When the devices are purchased in a quantity of 1,000, pricing starts at $1.00 for the MIC5233, and $0.84 for the NIC5235. Samples are available, and production quantities are stock to 8 weeks ARO.
