Laterally Propelled Hub-less Rollerblades Instructable Takes Grand Prize in Epilog Challenge V

Epilog Laseris pleased to announce Massachusetts Institute of Technology student, Jaguar Kristeller, Fairbanks, Alaska, is the grand-prize winner in the fifth installment of the highly-popular Epilog Challenge hosted on Instructables.com. Kristeller will receive a new Epilog Zing 16 Laser engraving/cutting system for his inventive "Electric Orbit Wheels: Laterally Propelled Hub-less Rollerblades" Instructable. The winning entry was one of 1191 instructables entered in the Epilog Challenge.

"I’m thrilled the judges deemed this instructable grand-prize worthy," Kristeller said. "Of course it will come in handy for prototyping and things like that, but I also can’t wait to just tinker and experiment with the laser."

"As usual with these challenges, I’m astounded at the creativity and innovation that goes into so many of the entries," said Mike Dean, vice president of sales and marketing for Epilog Laser. "Given Jaguar’s background in the maker/robotics arena, I have no doubt we’ll see some great things come from his laser work."

"I definitely consider myself a maker and can’t wait to get the laser to Alaska, where machinery like this is scarce," Kristeller said. "My intention is to provide access to the laser cutter for FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) teams and other makers."

"Wow, I want to try these out!" said Eric Wilhelm, founder of Instructables.com and director of communities at Autodesk. "This is excellent work from Jaguar and MITERS. I love giving away tools, and the Epilog Challenge always brings out the most ingenious and creative projects in the Instructables community."

First prize winners include: 3D Printed Camera: OpenReflex, PixelBrite and DIY high resolution 3D DLP printer.  Previous Epilog Challenge winners include the "DIY High-Speed Book Scanner"; the "8x8x8 Animated LED Cube", the "Arduino Powered Chess Playing Robot"; and "Build a Laser 3D Printer - Stereolithography at Home."
