New Tracker3 Pushes the Bounds of 3D Measurement

Rockville, MD August 4, 2005 -17 years after partnering with Boeing to produce the first commercially available laser tracking systems, API announces the 3rd generation Laser Tracker: the LT3000 or Tracker 3. The new Tracker 3 enhances API's exceptional design with a definitive list of new features direct from every metrologist's wish list.

In addition to being the most portable laser tracker available, Tracker 3 combines proven design, an unmatched working envelope, and high-accuracy first tier distance measurements using a laser interferometer (the internationally accepted standard). For ease of use, Tracker 3 also features the new high-speed Turbo ADM system (a 35x increase) for automated measurements and shooting around obstacle. Add to this Ethernet based communication (wired or wireless), multiple material temperature sensors, a Quicklink mounting platform, an internal level (gravity) sensor, and adaptive temperature controls that gurantee operation in harsh temperatures (-10 to 50 degrees C).

"The Tracker 3 represents a significant milestone for both API and the metrology industry in general," said product manager Aaron Sabino. "The features available on the tracker 3 were made possible through extensive user interaction and customer feedback. We consider Tracker 3 to be the most comprehensive laser tracker system ever made."

The list of features goes beyond the Tracker 3 itself. The Turbo AMD system in conjunction with the wireless communication allow easy connection to a wide selection of unique API accessories including the Intelliprobe hidden point probe, video camera targeting system, and real-time 6D tracking sensor (SmartTrak).

The Tracker3 also continues API's proven tracker design, employing on-the-shaft laser mounting. With the interferometer and Turbo ADM systems mounted on the shaft, the beam exits the tracker without the use of turning mirrors or deformable fiber optics. API's design minimizes systematic measurement errors, resulting in superior tracker stability range and accuracy. Each Tracker3 is backed by an industry leading two year warranty, live telephone support, and customer training at API University.
